Vitamin D3

Indications:

• Treatment of skeletal disorders (rachitism osteomalaciae).

• Supporting Calcium-Phosphorus metabolism.

• Supporing bone growth in racing horses and pet animals which can not utilise sunlight properly.

• Metabolic disorders which obstruct Vitamin D3 absorbtion (toxications and bile duct problems).

Principles of action:

Vitamin D is a group of secosteroids with anti-rachitic activity. It is similar in structure to steroid hormones such as testosterone, aldosterone, estradiol, progesterone and cortisone. Vitamin D has an anti-inflammatory activity in the tissues where it is active. Chronic inflammation underlies many chronic conditions, including neoplasia and immune-mediated disease.

Vitamin D regulates absorption of calcium and phosphorus from the bowel and is involved with its mobilization from bone. In concert with calcitonin and PTH, vitamin D regulates calcium homeostasis.
